Where the heck have I been?

Hi guys!  If you follow this blog, you’re probably wondering where the heck I’ve been.  Well, I’ve been debating writing this post for a while, and I’ve decided now is finally the time.  About 6 months ago, I drastically changed my eating habits, and while I assumed it would be a temporary thing, and would not effect blogging life, I was so very wrong.  Here’s the story, in order to get a few pounds off pre-holidays I decided to go “low carb”.  As time went on, I realized I was really happy on my new “diet” and slowly, it was transforming into the way I like/want to eat on a permanent basis.

But, over here on Foodie’s Diet blog, I felt I was being deceptive.  Blogging about things I wasn’t actually eating.  So I decided to take a break from blogging.  Well here I am, almost 6 months later, and I’m thriving in my new way of eating, but I miss blogging.

Now, how does this effect the blog?  Well, the problem with the mission of this blog and my new eating habits, is they conflict.  Seriously.  Like are pretty much polar opposites.  And I wasn’t ready to admit that I was changing the way I was eating/approaching food enough to CHANGE MY BLOG.

You see I have done the whole, low calorie, low fat, Weight Watchers type model, for well, my whole life.  And frankly if I was strict I felt soooo so deprived.  And if I loosened up a little.  I gained weight.  Sometimes a lot of weight.  But in my head, I thought the only successful way to lose weight and keep it off was to simply restrict calories.  And that is a way, a way that works for a lot of people.  But for me, it doesn’t.  I don’t do well with tracking and counting and weighing, and all that.  So inevitably I “eye ball it” and well, fail.

So what does this mean?  Well, I’m shifting the focus of this blog to a lower carb, higher fat, not focusing on calories approach.  I will still give you calorie contents, but they will not be as low, or reduced in any way.

With low carb you eat actual cheese, real butter, ranch dressing, and oh my god BACON!  But sugar and bread and pasta is outie.  But you know what?  I’m also eating more vegetable than I ever have in my life.  Cauli-rice.  Cauliflower mashed “potatoes”.  Zucchini noodles.  Lettuce wraps.  Salads.  Stuffed peppers and mushrooms.  And you know what, it’s not that hard!  And I feel SO much better!  I’m not bloated, I feel like I’m eating real food, not processed breads or fake granola bars and bland ice cream.  I am also fully prepared for naysayers, because I know that a low carb diet is CONTROVERSIAL.  Well, mostly prepared, no one loves criticism.

All I’m going to ask of you, my readers, is to be kind to my decision and most importantly, like I’ve always said, DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU!  And this, works best for me.  If the shift of this blog does not align with your goals, I totally understand.  I will be sad to see you go, but I understand.  If you’re interested, I will be providing more info on what my day looks like, how I eat, why it works for me, and you guessed it, recipes!!  Yay!

Talk to you soon!!

  1. Amy-
I just found your website through comments on another blog and am in love already with your new approach. I myself have been looking to get healthier, not necessarily go on some crazy diet that I’ll end up hating and fall off of in 6 months. I’ll definitely be keeping tabs and trying out your recipes! My biggest obstacle is that my bf is a chef and he LOVES his carbs. So when he cooks, it’s usually something loaded with them.. like rice or pasta. I’ve at least gotten him to use brown rice and whole grain pasta so hopefully that’s a step in the right direction. I’m excited to follow.. and hopefully join.. your journey. Good luck!
