Skinny Sparkling Honey Bee

Happy FRI-DAY!!!!  Friday!  Woo!  It’s labor day weekend, which usually means sun, fun, pool/lake/beach and cocktails.  Did you catch yesterday’s post?  If you didn’t, here’s the gist, we’re doing a vodka extravaganza in honor of labor day weekend AND the fact that the 2nd most used search term to find this blog is… vodka!

You look for vodka, I give you a whole long weekend filled with vodka cocktails.  I aim to please people.  Aim. To. Please.

Today’s cocktail is one of my favorites, the Skinny Sparkling Honey Bee.  Ready for it?  We’re talking lavender. honey. vodka. bubbles. repeat. and repeat again!

I will admit I am fully on the floral cocktail craze right now.  If a drink on a menu has elder flower in it, it is coming my way.  There’s a bar by my apartment that has a cocktail with vodka, elder flower and violet syrup.  It is AMAZING!  (Did the caps, bold font and underlining convey that enough?  We’re talking amazing here people!  I’ll throw in a few !!exclamation points for effect!!)  Elder flower though is a sugary liqueur and is quite high in calories, about 100 for 1 oz.  Don’t you just hate that?

This cocktail has the same floral notes as the one I described above, with significantly less calories, plus all the health benefits of honey!

This recipe calls for honey that is steeped with lavender to bring out the flavor.  The longer you allow the honey to sit, the more flavorful.  I personally fill a mason jar with honey, add a few tablespoons of lavender.  Now I have a large batch on hand whenever the need for a cocktail strikes.  Or tea.  Sometimes I drink tea.  sheesh.
