Greek Yogurt Sauce Series

greek yogurt series

So recently I told you guys about a few series I was going to be doing.  You probably have since seen the cream sauce series.  This series is very similar.  It’s a creamy yummy sauce series, just, well, cold.

The Cream Sauce series is a great substitution for alfredo sauce, white wine cream sauces, etc.  This series will give you great recipes and substitutions for things like sour cream based toppings and aiolis, or mayonnaise sauces.  I feel like I’ve used the word “sauce” approximately 60,000 times in this post so far?

Does sour cream really need a substitute?  Eh, maybe not.  In fact I love low fat Daisy sour cream.  Seriously, I don’t get paid by Daisy or anything, and I usually have no brand loyalty, just whatever-is-on-sale loyalty, but I love Daisy brand.  But Greek yogurt, is just, well, more healthy than sour cream.  So let’s look at some stats

Regular Daisy

Ok, so the servings sizes are a bit off, so I’ve done the math for you on the Greek yogurt.  The serving size in the nutrition facts for the sour creams is 2 Tbls, and the Greek yogurt is one cup.  Just in case you don’t know, there are 16 tablespoons in 1 cup.  So, I divided everything by 8, to get you 2 tablespoon servings.

Calories- 15
Fat- 0
Sugar- 1.25
Protein- 2.6

So as you see, the stats in the Greek yogurt are better, less than half the calories, zero fat, more than twice the protein and slightly more calcium than the regular sour cream.  Plus, not to mention, the good affects of the live cultures to your digestive system.

Have I sold you?  Awesome.

So now for the recipe.  You know the drill, today I’ll give you the basic recipe for this sauce, which is just doctored up Greek yogurt to make it a touch more flavorful.  In a next post I’ll give you recipes for variations to this sauce, along with a recipe utilizing it.  Until that recipe comes, know that this Greek yogurt sauce work great on things you already use basic sour cream or mayo on.  Baked potatoes?  Yup.  Burger?  Oh yeah.  Oh and don’t forget tacos or nachos.  Mmmmm  I’m hungry!

Notes
Ummm, I feel like I should give you some really awesome directions here, but well there aren't any!

A good slather of this on a sandwich or burger is really only 1 Tbls, if that much, so you're looking at only 10-12ish calories. Did you know 1 Tbls of mayo has about 100 calories? You're welcome.
